Flat pick or finger pick

I tried using a pick, it even sounded ok at times but I gave up. I can't strum E and A without it sounding clumsy. I prefer fingers so I'm happier but it is a course and learning material so my session tomorrow might see if I can get any improvement or it will be fingers the whole way forward...

Which I like the idea of...
